- Pragmatic Definition
Pragmatics can be interpreted as "the use of language", not "language as a system". We can compare it with the term by Chomsky (Linguistic Expert), He once said competence and performance, pragmatics is more directed towards performance.
Performence is an act of someone's language that is based on competence (language rules possessed by someone so that they are able to make sentences), but also influenced by other factors such as circumstances or situations.
- My own thought and definition
Pragmatics are language concepts that are more concerned with the practical side than the benefits. In other words pragmatics are something that is more concerned with the final result than the values held in society.
Example: in the concept of a pragmatic ball game that is a ball game only aims to produce points or goals without considering playing methods or techniques such as attacking or defending.
